Dennis Brislawn is a fervent supporter of the Second Amendment, a gun owner who also happens to be a trust and estates attorney. A former Army officer and Airborne Ranger, he advocates ownership of the right gear, acquiring the right training, and building the right legal plan for every gun owner who cares about protecting and exercising individual rights. To that end he created the GunDocx(TM) gun trust system, a unique gun trust planning system used by attorneys nationwide, and two online communities for gun owners and attorneys who serve them to explore related legal issues and share lessons learned. He also regularly instructs firearms owners who carry concealed in how to deal with armed confrontation and the aftermath.
Given that there appear to be at least 300 million firearms in the United States, improper ownership, use, and transfer of any firearm can expose anybody to serious fines and criminal charges. GunDocx™ was designed by Dennis to be the first comprehensive firearms-specific living trust system. It works for firearms regulated by the National Firearms Act, and for those regulated or subject only to state and local law. GunDocx™ is a game-changer for anyone who values firearms for personal use or as part of a family legacy.
Dennis’ practice is interdisciplinary and counseling-oriented, offering a full range of planning services and mid to high-end strategies that accomplish client goals. Client representations include estate & gift tax planning, estate & gift tax audits, asset protection, business planning and succession, advanced estate and charitable planning. He serves clients throughout Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. He is also regularly invited to co-counsel with other attorneys nationwide.
Teaching the professions is something that makes Dennis stand out even among the many excellent and nationally-recognized attorneys in practice. This year Dennis has taught nationally about Oddball Trusts with attorney Wendy Goffe; he presented Gun Trusts, How Not to Shoot Yourself in the Foot at WealthCounsel’s annual symposium in Chicago.
Dennis has been well-known as a radio personality on AM 570 KVI radio, hosting a popular live show tackling personal and business legal issues since 1995. He is a nationally-recognized speaker, author, and legal systems designer for WealthCounsel, LLC and its sister companies The Advisor’s Forum, LLC and ElderCounsel, LLC. He is also the recipient of the Martindale Hubbell AV Peer Review Rating, ranking him top in his profession for ethical standards and professional excellence.
Dennis is admitted to practice before all of the Courts of Washington, Alaska, and Oregon, the United States Federal District Court, and the Internal Revenue Service. He is accredited as an investment advisor representative and professional insurance advisor. He is a principal member of WealthCounsel, LLC; Fellow, The Esperti Peterson Institute; member of the American Bar Association, the Alaska, Oregon, and Washington State Bar Associations; the Estate Planning Council of Seattle and the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity.
Dennis married Susan in 1988 and they live in Woodinville. They met while both were serving as active duty US Army officers. Dennis is active in King County Search & Rescue as the Association President and as an Operations Leader in two King County SAR units.
